What's new in library materials for 2014-2015In recent years, the Bayfield School Library has worked very hard to build an extensive collection of MP3 devices called Playaways. These small, portable devices contain the audio version of a book. Students who are auditory learners can benefit from the same reading enjoyment as others by using these portable devices. They are available for everyone to enjoy. Content and stories contained in each Playaway can be easily programmed to read faster or slower based on the students preference and reading ability.
The library is also working on developing a small collection of Kindle e-readers for student and staff enjoyment. Currently the Bayfield School Library has 7 Kindles available for checkout. Students currently have access to 250 ebooks owned by the Bayfield School. |

6th grade and 7th grade students at the Bayfield School are learning Creative Computing through a program called Scratch! Computer science and computing-related fields have historically introduced students to this concept in a disconnected way - putting technical detail ahead of their interests. The middle school students at Bayfield are developing personal connections to computing, using their creativity, and gaining interest in a field that is fast-growing. Students are learning computer programing language, and exploring key computational thinking concepts. Check it out at http://scratch.mit.edu
